Product Description
Glandion Carney and William Long contend that a study of Jesus' life can restore harmony, integrity, and balance to our lives as Christians. Focusing on the Gospel of Luke, they examine both the inner life and the outer ministry of Jesus.

5 out of 5 stars How Jesus answered the call of God on his life.   November 2, 1999

It seems that in America we live such instant lives with everything available at an incredible speed that when it comes to waiting we are very poor at this. The best things in life do not come easy and take time, whether we take the time or not shows in our character. In this book Carney and Long examine the spirituality of Christ by looking at how He answered the call of God on His life. Jesus' character as the Son of God (though He was in true form) came about as He took the time to grow in his understanding of faith and his mission in life. Carney and Long show us the awakening of Jesus' call, His mastery of scripture, His prayer life, Jesus and the focused life, Jesus and social justice, suffering, healing and more. These men show Jesus' life and how much like us He really was when He was in human form. I believe that the character of Christ in us as Christians will never happen if we do not take the time to be formed in HIS IMAGE. To answer the call takes a lifetime. I have to differ with them in the last chapter when they talk of exploring the spiritual practices of other religions (Judaism aside, I believe we can learn from the people God thought important enough to devote half the Bible too) for nurturing. I guess I just believe that His Holy Spirit nurturing us is enough. If your call is to minister reconciliation to those outside of Christianity then to search outside of Christ is from above. But if it's to try to conform it to your call in Christ and use it for His glory then I think you need to really Pray about it. I respect everyones right to answer their call, and in the scripture "You will find me when you search for me with all your heart, is answered when your yearning minds and burning hearts look to Christ. This is one of the better books I have read in helping me to answer the call on my life.
