Amazon.com This compact guidebook, produced to the National Audubon Society's high standards of quality, gives full descriptions of more than 650 species found east of the Rocky Mountains, along with notes on several hundred more. The eminently sensible organization relies on first-impression visible characteristics rather than the elaborate keys of some older texts--a format well suited to beginning wildflower enthusiasts. If, for instance, you wanted to identify a long-stemmed, tubular red flower that you found in a grove of loblolly pines, you would first turn to the color plates, find the section devoted to red flowers, find a likely match from the 30-odd choices, and then turn to the text to see that the flower's habitat and range made a good fit, ruling out those species that do not. After a few minutes' looking, you'll have identified a trumpet honeysuckle. Well written and richly illustrated, this peerless guide makes the ideal companion for an expedition to eastern wood or prairie. --Gregory McNamee
Product Description Nothing is as colorful as a field of wildflowers in full-bloom so what could be more appropriate than a magnificent field guide with beautiful full-color photographs? More than 1,000 species are covered in full detail, with notes on more than 400 others. The 700 identification photographs show wildflowers-including grasses and sedges, and many flowering vines and shrubs-in their natural habitats.
Note: the Eastern Edition generally covers states east of the Rocky Mountains, while the Western Edition covers the Rocky Mountain range and all the states to the west of it.

I really like this one. July 26, 2008 I like it. It's better then some of the other field guide books that I have seen. I would love a all in one (Trees, flowers, and vines) but wildflowers is a good place to start! Nice book. I'd buy it again.
Awesome May 30, 2008 This is well worth the purchase. The photographs are beautiful and all are linked to the description of the flowers.
I wish I could give it 4 1/2 stars April 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The book itself is great. My husband and I are often outdoors: hiking, biking, and jogging. This is a great and easy to use reference to identify the flowers we come across. The pictures are nicely organized by flower type and color. The back section has great descriptions about the flowers.
The only reason for the imperfect rating is the fact that the book is thick for the glue binding and with very frequent use the pages will come out. Even with that factor I would definitely recommend this book!
Beautiful photos March 27, 2008 The last wildflower book I had was a state conservation sponsored book that was 15 years old. I finally treated myself to this beautiful book the other day since I plan on taking my kids camping and wanted to share my love of wildflowers with them this summer. The pictures are crisp and clear and easily sorted by color, then shape. There is also a very thorough description of the flower in the back. It is well worth the 20 or so dollars!
The Ultimate Test July 7, 2007 Each of our five kids had to collect wildflower specimens and identify them with some general information for their eighth grade project. We used these books with each one and they are still in great shape after more than 10 years usage. I recently purchased the updated versions and was very pleased with the photos. I didn't really think they could get better but they did!
