From the supplier: Some 19 states and four Canadian provinces host birding festivals to attract bird watchers and boost the local economy. In Texas alone, hunting, fishing and wildlife recreation contributed $3.6 billion to the state's coffers in 1993. The state sponsors the most number of birding festivals and has an official birding trail. Arizona has a hotline for birders, while Mississippi has reserved some beautiful beaches and built viewing platforms to protect terns. Nebraska has instituted measures to protect its Platte River habitat, where 80% of North American cranes migrate in spring.
