Unique, warm and courageous story of an environmental pioneer who saved the Ridley Turtles September 28, 2007 Evelyn Sizemore was not only the best person to write this book, but possibly the only person who had the passion and grace to tell this story so beautifully. The added bonus to this book is Evelyn's black and white photographs. Amazing how the current message of sound environmental policies for the protection of endangered animals confirms the pure wisdom of their early struggles to save the Ridley turtles on the beaches of South Padre Island some 20 or 30 years ago. These two women were way ahead of their time and inspire us all to stand in our truth as they did in theirs.

An engaging depiction of a truly remarkable & selfless life May 10, 2002 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
The Turtle Lady: Ila Fox Loetscher Of South Padre is the life story of a truly remarkable woman who, after the death of her husband, devoted herself to preserving the sea turtle Lepidochelys kempii (Kemp's ridley), from extinction. A superb biographical portrait of a woman who was a pioneer aviator, through her marriage and tragic widowhood, to her years as a devoted environmentalist and animal lover, The Turtle Lady is not to be missed. This is an engaging depiction of a truly remarkable and selfless life. The Turtle Lady is especially recommended reading for wildlife and environmental protection activists.
