Excellent! March 25, 2006 I bought this for my little brother for Christmas and we assembled it together. It worked perfectly and he absolutely loved the entire experience. I will be buying more kits like this for his birthday!
It works - but check the power lead! November 17, 2005 It failed to work initially. After reading the other comments, I too noticed that the power lead from the battery pack was swopped around. A simple swop of the wires in the pcb connector (small screwdriver needed) and the unit jumped into action - luckily no damage occurred with the reverse voltage, although the transistor did get warm!
Outstanding! August 24, 2005 My seven year old son and I had great fun building this kit. It worked perfectly the first time. We are going to purchase another kit for our daughter.
Wish you could build your own digital door alarm? August 21, 2005 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I too purchased this book, not through Amazon, but saw the reviews and thought I'd put my two cents in here. I tried unsuccessfully to put this together with my two sons. They sat there patiently as I read through the book and constructed the alarm. It was a real disappointment for all of us to not having a working alarm in the end. I then wound up rebuilding it a second time, again with no success. I took the book back to my local bookstore for an exchange and after a third attempt, still no working alarm. By now, I have hours invested in this project. I too tried to email the company and my message was bounced back. My neighbor has a working version of this that he and his son put together some time ago. My feeling is that the newer copies of this book may come with a defective alarm, which makes sense why the older review in this group is positive while the more recent reviews are so negative. I think I'll try to get my money back.
Failure!!! March 17, 2005 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This product really made my son upset. After spending an hour or so putting it together, and then spending several more hours troubleshooting, we finally gave up. This product does not work. At least I know I'm not the only one who had problems with this product.
