Product Description
Legends have long told of the powerful, mysterious creatures that are half human and half fish. This scrapbook is a collection of writings and "evidence" from Aunt Lydia. The four mermaid figures bundled with the book represent the four types of mermaids that can be found all over the world: the frequently spotted shipsavers; the wishgivers who help those in trouble; the shapeshifters who whimsically enter and exit the human world; and the weatherworks mermaids who bargain with humans for favors. Plenty of "factual" information is included.

Great book for a young person July 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this book for an 8 year old that was really into the weekly TV show called H2O. She loved the book and kept asking if Mermaids are real. What a way to spark interest in reading and challenging the mind.
Quality books, please!!! March 28, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Another shameless rip-off of the successful and for more attractive and enriching Ology books. There are actually wonderful books of folklore available on this and other subjects for children and young readers. They are worth looking for. Books like this and others in this series merely skim material from better authors and then blend it all together until is has little meaning, resonance or folkloric interest left. Most of the information in this and other titles in this series is utterly fictional and makes no meaningful connections with any of the actual folklore out there. Though children will no doubt be attracted to a book that comes with a plastic toy, these books, like Happy Meals (which also come with toys to encourage consuming poor quality), have little value. Poorly written too. These are book to leave on the bookstore shelf. I also can't feel good about buying books by people who so blatantly use the work of other authors and then don't credit them or cite their sources.
Has anyone checked these figurines for Lead in the paint? November 16, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am just wondering, as this is another Made in China product, if the figurines have been checked for lead paint? Anyone know, I am reluctant to purchase it if the figurines are toxic.
The Secret World of Mermaids July 5, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My daughter loves mermaids and this was the greatest book ever!!!!! She never puts it down and wants me to read it to her all the time. The beautiful pictures and reality of it brought her imaginary world alive!!!!!!!!!!
Mermaid Lover's Mom March 8, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
My son is obsessed with mermaids. Although the Disney versions are cute, he has pretty much outgrown them. This book brings back the magic. It is not so "girly" as many other books. It is set up as a kind of scrapbook and treats the subject as fact and family history. He is fascinated with learning about the different "types" of mermaids. The other cool thing is the pages on how to communicate with mermaids. He is having a lot of fun working with this new "language" and deciphering messages that we leave for each other. He can't wait to go to the beach this summer and leave some messages in the sand. A great book!
