Comments: The dust jacket has a lot of wear and tear, tanning, and creasing. It's a mess. The boards are stained, and have edgewear, particularly at the top and bottom of the spine (dented in). Inside there is someone's name, but aside from that, the text is very clean and intact.

A fine copy in light green cloth with dark green lettering on the front panel and spine, green topstain, and light bumping at the spine ends in a near-fine dustwrapper with an enchanting design by Ilokna Karasz, with minor wear at the spine ends. Although not well-known in the U. S., Green was one of Britain's most beguiling 20th century novelists, and a contemporary of Anthony Powell (whom he met at Eton) and Evelyn Waugh. Modern Library picked this as one of the best 100 novels of our era. The author's second novel, it first appeared in England in 1929, and is considered by many to be his finest work.
