Comments: Perhaps unread? Two hardcovers in slipcase (664 pages). Alfred A. Knopf, Borzoi Books; (1938 copyright/1939 sixth printing). Very nice cloth-bound two-volume set. Judging by the binding tightness, I?d guess they were never read, or surely not read more than once. Nicely bound on quality paper. There?s some mild scuffing and abrasion to the covers of the books where they have rubbed against one another and the cardboard sleeve (box) over the past 65 years. Very small raised area on volume ii front cover from contact with liquid. Christmas dedication from 1939 on front end paper of volume i. Notwithstanding these slight blemishes, the books could almost be described ?like new?. The slip case is soiled, yellow, and missing the top panel.
