4 out of 5 stars About as good as it gets...   May 30, 2007

For American History textbooks today, this one is about as good as it gets. It is not perfect, mind you, but as a veteran history teacher, I can tell you that I have come across a good number of textbooks with glaring factual errors (the AGS World Geography and American Government books come to mind). This one has no obvious factual errors.

I have discovered that one of the best indicators of a good social studies textbook is how economics is covered. This one gives a fair and logical coverage to economics topics. There are no glowing references to Che Guevara, so its one step in the right direction right there.

2 out of 5 stars Too much information!   April 4, 2006

My son's middle school is using this textbook. Though the authors have gone to a lot of trouble to provide pictures of the people and places they discuss, and though there are some compelling quotations and stories which COULD interest middle-school aged children, the text has entirely too much information. The authors attempt too much. This would be a good text for someone preparing to TEACH middle school, from which they could glean good information, but it is overwhelming to the student unless the teacher can focus and subordinate well. In our son's case, the textbook became a handicap rather than a help.

1 out of 5 stars American Nation, less than great   May 18, 2004

ok, whoever thinks this book is good is wrong. I'm taking History using this book and no one likes it. We have probably used it 3 times this year because even our teacher doesn't like this book. Don't you dare buy it, you'll regret it. REMEMBER NOT TO BUY THIS!

5 out of 5 stars Coolest history book ever!   September 22, 2002

I was never really interested in world history or any other kind of history but American History. I think America has the most interesting history in the world! I love this textbook because it makes learning easier and straight to the point. In fact, this year I am actually loving history! I mean, the Constitution and everything is wonderful and this book makes it easy to understand. The authors must of spent a lot of time writing this textbook because it is so easy and i love looking into it! oh, one more thing i wanted to say to the authors - "Thanks for making history fun this year, you guys are the best textbook writers ever!"

I ordered what I thought was the paper back version of the book, but received the study guide. Please be more honest, and discriptive in your listings.
