Great new book July 23, 2008 The Host is very different kind of book for this author and as sach may cause some wondering from her devoted readers. It has sci-fi elements in the story but is not hardcore. It follows the life of a human host who fights the invasion of her body by a soul parasite that wants to take over. How both struggle to keep alive and become two in one body is a very interesting tale. Two entities co-existing on one body with independent thought and feeling has to make for a great reading. Once again Stephenie had created a great book and proven that she is not just a vampire writer. Anna del C. Definitely a page turner July 22, 2008 Absolutely awesome book. I am not big on the whole science fiction aspect of anything, but The Host is definitely a must-read, and a highly-likely to read again! Wow, Stephenie Meyer is an incredible writer. No wonder my daughter and all her friends love her series... I'll be reading those next!
I liked this one better than Twilight. July 22, 2008 Twilight is young adult literature, and this is obviously written for an older audience. The premise was very unique and appealing, and I found the characters interesting. However, the story begins to lag a bit at the end and seems to tie up a little too neatly.
Not your typical alien invasion horror story - AT ALL! July 21, 2008 At first I wasn't all that excited to read this book - figured it was another alien invasion story, and don't get me wrong - I like those too - but didn't feel like reading something like that at the moment. But this book is NOT your typical alien invasion story at all! This book is more about relationships and love of family - how love never dies. And the best part is that it's all from a viewpoint that I've never thought about or read before. Loved it! Truly enjoyable and the audio version is fabulous! Could not stop listening to this story! Well done!
A little too slow for me... July 21, 2008 After falling in love with the Twilight Saga, this was somewhat of a disappointment. The idea behind the story was great, but the execution was too slow. After 300 pages in the same setting, I was forcing myself to keep going in hopes of a really good ending. Even then, I didn't quite get what I was looking for. For the entire book, Meyer wrote in long, drawn out sequences, then suddenly she wraps up the entire story in 2 short epilogues. After just reading in Entertainment Weekly that Meyer has the story lines for 2 sequels in her head, I am really hoping it will get better than this. Probably could have been a really good 400 page novel.
