5 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK PRODUCES THE "WOW!!" FACTOR   April 1, 2006

Amazing book! so friendly, even funny, the graphics are incredible, go deep enough in the subject, still right to the point...and very important, you never lose the track when you are reading, something that is very common in other biology books. It keeps you focus, very high quality; definitely, one of my favorites Biology book. Yes, it's good as a mother! :) I love this book!!

If the 7th edition is too expensive for you, this is the one you should choose.

5 out of 5 stars Probably the best general biology book out there   November 25, 2005

I used this text for AP Biology.

The text itself has a kind of "science textbook" feel to it. The margins are very narrow top, bottom, left, and right. There is a great deal of very informative text with a few pictures to complement.

The text is organized very well. The first chapter lists the core themes of biology according to the authors, and even late in the text the authors try to stick to these themes.

You'd be hard pressed to say that there was some general information missing from this. It is detailed.

The only minor annoyance is that it may be too detailed. The AP exam in biology will definitely not cover all or even most of the fifty-two chapters.

I treated this text more as an encyclopedia than as an actual "read it" textbook. For the AP exam, I used Cliffs. If I had a question that required more clarification, or if I was simply interested, I referred back to this and it gave me the answer.

I love my textbook. I am in high school and as a sophomore last year, I took this class. It was hard, insanely hard. But, this book explained it so well, and i knew the book page by page, it helped me and 50% of my classmates get a 5 on their AP Exam. It was an amazing book. Even after you are done with the class, you can still go back and refer to this book. I would recommend to anyone and everyone!
