profound simplicity July 28, 2000 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
I've been looking for this book a long time, down many dead-ends. Usually, "simple" = shallow, and "profound" slides into wordy. The book should be printed highlighted! Every sentence in it is powerful. Direct without being harsh, he makes a lot of our mind-based beliefs look the nonsense they are, and impossible to continue.
Now - Now July 17, 2000 41 out of 46 found this review helpful
Echkart Tolle's book is a living and powerful vehicle that takes the reader gently by the hand into the Now if they but will allow it. Via a question and answer format, he addresses just about every issue, question, and objection that anyone could possible raise on the subject. The power that the Now carries is transmitted in his words and seems to "ring true" in the heart of the reader. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has read about being in the Now and desired it but somehow has not been able to come close to experiencing it. He writes in his introduction that he hopes that his book will act as a catalyst for a "radical inner transformation" in those who are ready for it. Well, there is no question in my mind that it indeed can cause such a transformation. One of the things he said that had a great impact on me was, "The moment you realize you are not present, you are present." So simple. This is a book you will want to keep in reach to renew and refresh yourself with anytime you need it.
This Is all you need to know July 11, 2000 23 out of 25 found this review helpful
I have been an active passionate "seeker" for over 10 years. I have read many books, gone to many forums but none have allowed me to get to where it was I wanted to be. Mr. Tolle has helped me to end that search. I have never felt such joy, peace and love before in all aspects of my life. I read it every day so as to keep the message strong. Once I master the techniques I will have no use for the book. I have given out 5 copies as gifts to my relatives and friends. If you want to get there, Mr. Tolle will guide you right to the brink. The last step has to be yours and yours alone. I hope you have the courage to take that last step because the place you get to is indescribable.
VERY READABLE July 9, 2000 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I won't repeat all of the wonderful things about this book that other reviewers have said. Suffice it to say that I agree with them. I did want to point out that this book is very easy to read. Many books I have read about spirituality are poorly written and difficult to understand. This is not one of them. The simplicity of Tolle's message rings with truth. This book can change your life.
This book has presence. June 29, 2000 Eckhardt Tolle's "The Power of Now" is a compelling book about getting into the moment and accessing the power that resides there. Tolle talks about pain and suffering as functions of the mind that we can let go of. I was struck by so many passages, including this one: "So the single most vital step on your journey toward enlightenment is this: learn to disidentify from your mind. Every time you creat a gap in the stream of mind, the light of your consciousness grows stronger." What I like here is that the words themselves are both intriguing and resonant with an inexplicable truth. By saying yes to your life, to this moment, Tolle explains your life will start working for you rather than against you.The book is written as a question and answer conversation with Tolle, who converses clearly, patiently, and with compassion. I highly recommend this book - it can make a huge difference in your life! Tolle also points out that while only you can bring yourself into the now, finding someone who is intensely conscious and joining them in the state of presence can accelerate things. So I'd like to recommend a book by a couple I've experienced as master trainers in getting into the moment. It is Ariel and Shya Kane's "Working of Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book About Instantaneous Transformation." This book is about having a magnificent life and nothing less. And while it seems too good to be true, I found that the three principles of transformation the Kanes talk about touched me so profoundly that I HAVE discovered my own magnificence. No kidding! Just by being in the moment, life becomes magical. By becoming aware of the mechanical behaviors that keep us out of the moment, we regain our original freedom. Read this book and the presence of the Kanes will seep through and you'll feel how true and powerful their words are, and how deeply they care about people and about the often-missed possibility of living with immeasurable joy, wellness, nourishing relationships, and satisfaction. And if you're ever in New York City, check out their seminars - they are miraculous.
