2 out of 5 stars Loretta, Personally?   April 30, 2001

Didn't anyone else dislike Loretta Gage?

I'm sure she didn't write this to win a popularity contest, but it was difficult for me to read the writings and thoughts of someone that turned me off shortly after I started reading.

In fact, I have to admit that I only made it 3/4 of the way through the book.

I wouldn't have her as my pets' vet or my friend.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful story, not for the PETAS   December 15, 2000

I really loved this book. This is a must read for anyone going into vet school. The fact that animal lives are expendable with definite monitary values within our society is a lesson that she shows through her stories. You must really read this book to see the consequences of this. Not everyone could be a vet for this reason. My favorite parts of the book were her own humanitarian experiences with the animals that she grew to love.

5 out of 5 stars A must read for future vets   April 5, 2000

As a student getting ready to apply to vet school, I was moved by the author's account of what the next 4 years of my life will be. She tells students what they need to know, and includes moving text as to why anyone would actually want a job that can be so heart breaking-order this book now!

5 out of 5 stars An enjoyable, truthful tale of the journey to becoming a vet   January 18, 1999

As an aspiring veterinarian, I was very moved by the story of what so many of us are facing throughout our education. No holds barred--some of the chapters are a little harder to read emotionally, but there is always an underlying element of the hard truth which comes with the profession. A VERY good read...

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful! Save this book to read again and again!   December 14, 1998

This book is wonderful! It has changed my life by giving me the courage to persue my dream. To the reader who thought this book was depressing, I can only think that you have never faced discouragement and ridicule as you worked towards your goals.

Ms. Gage is a gifted writer and her story-telling is superb. She is right up there with James Herriot. Please, please I hope there will be a sequel!

This is a great book for anyone thinking of a career with animals or for anyone who likes to see the underdog win. Buy this book!
