Great Art and Story August 12, 2008 The art is amazing. The best I've seen in comics. The story is pretty good too.
Extremisly Awesome. (Yes, I know that sounds corny) July 27, 2008 Okay, I really started getting into Iron Man after the blockbuster film came out. So I didn't really know where to start comic-wise, after reading reviews about "Extremis" I decided to give it a shot, the shot was definitely worth it! It follows his origin great. It's just a really fun read if you like Iron Man. I'm not too crazy about the art though, that's just me. I tend to like the more comic-book looking comics, than the more realistic art. But this still gets 5 stars because I enjoyed it A-LOT!
Long-Time IM fan...good, not great May 13, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
After going a while not reading superhero comics (been reading back issues of The Losers, Queen & Country, etc.) the movie hype for the IM film piqued my interest in this old favorite. After reading those other books, with deep complex stories, I found this too light. The art was top notch but I felt pretty unfulfilled afterward. My next superhero titles will probably be going back to The Ultimates and the like. Better writing.
fantastic story. May 9, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Nice simple story to re-introduce Iron Man to the 21st century. The only downside is Adi Granov's very static & flat art.
Good place to start after seeing the movie.
A marvelous restart for Iron Man April 22, 2008 This is an absolutely first-rate restart of a series, with a wonderful updating of a Marvel staple character. If there has been one consistent with Tony Stark in all his incarnations, it has been his extremism. This led to many of his personal problems, in particular his alcoholism, but it also has led to the intense devotion to his vocation of trying to bring the world into the future, which he hopes will be a more peaceful, gentler world. For the sake of his goal he has always been ready -- far readier than any of the Marvel super heroes -- to pursue extreme measures to bring about his goals. His ideals, which do indeed exist, sometimes become hazy as he focuses on getting the job done. In EXTREMIS we see this all brought together in a wonderful relaunch.
The plot is not complex for these issues. Tony Stark encounters a new enemy, a white supremacist who has undertaken a drug treatment called Extremis that makes him into a virtually undefeatable superman. Iron Man confronts and fights him, but he is unable to keep pace with his speed and quickness. This leads Tony to ask his friend Maya Hansen to inject him with the Extremis Virus as well. The result is a vastly enhanced interface with his Iron Man suit. Suddenly he is not merely one of the more powerful Avengers; he is made into a superhero of almost overwhelming power.
Tony easily defeats his nemesis in this series, but his newfound power proves problematic in subsequent issues. I need only add that visually the upgrade in the physical appearance of Iron Man is stunning. Historically I always thought that Iron Man was one of the least attractive looking Marvel Superheroes. But now he is one of the sleekest, coolest looking superheroes ever. This new look has been fully incorporated into the new IRON MAN movie.
