Practical, sound advice and great images. January 2, 2003 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This was the first book by John Shaw that I purchased. Though it is a little old, it is simply packed with sound advice and techniques which are practical and useful on the field. This book taught me everything I needed to know about macro / close-up photography. You might also want to refer to his section on close up photography in his later book "Nature photography field guide" which is rather more up to date.
Worth the price just for the photos July 2, 2002 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is an awesome book. I still haven't praticed enough to master many of the techniques, but I am getting better all the time. This book covers from beginer to master and all points in between.
Stunning Photography June 9, 2002 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you have read John Shaw before, you will get a lot of the same information on apeture, shutterspeed, film speed, lenses, tripods, etc. However, the photographs in this book are amazing. Shaw's captions tell how he achieved them. It is a beautiful book, and very informative if this is your first read by John Shaw.
A Beginner book May 7, 2002 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have the book for years. I bought it as it has the highest rating from reader review. As review it today, I would say it just good for someone want to start close up. It provide a lot of practical information for a starter. For a advance macro photographer, the information will becoem little and not details enought.
Excellent book February 24, 2002 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I highly recommend this book. Great images and easy to understand techniques. Shaw is down to earth and obviously speaks from experience. The images alone justify the cost but you will learn from this book.
