5 out of 5 stars One of the best Batman stories in the past few years   July 17, 2008
Jeph Loeb's yearlong Hush arc on Batman was made all the better by offering spectacular artwork from penciler Jim Lee and inker Scott Williams, and ended up being a best-seller as well as being one of the best Batman stories in the past few years. Hush is the name of a new villain to come into Batman's life, who utilizes many members of Batman's rogues gallery to wreak havoc on the Dark Knight. Everyone from the Joker, to Riddler, to Poison Ivy, the Scarecrow, Killer Croc, Clayface, and even Catwoman whom Batman has grown even closer to as of late. For those who may have missed Hush the first time around, Loeb offers plenty of entertaining twists, and Lee's pencil work is gorgeous as always, made all the better by the inks of his longtime, underrated partner Scott Williams. This gorgeous Absolute Edition is a true work of art, and has a bounty of features and commentary from Loeb and Lee on the creation of their run. All in all, Absolute Batman: Hush is a must-own for Bat-fans, and remains one of the best Batman stories to see the light of day in the past few years.

5 out of 5 stars Garnteed: Spoier Free!   April 27, 2008
Hey! If you are thinking of getting this then you have probably read the story already. So, you aren't too worried about me spoiling it for you... but there's goodies in the Absolute Hush that I shouldn't tell you about at any rate.

I'll start with some general praise for the Absolute line. This seems like an excessive product. Take a story that has seen print in monthly books and TPB and add some new material (essays, interviews, sketches, new pages. It depends on the book) and make it spendy. First: View these like deluxe edition DVDs. You can get the bare bones and be happy or you can throw down some scratch and get a little King Kong statue with some other swag. I appreciate the larger format, the grade of paper, the high quality of the printing, and the added value of the binding and cover.

Hush as a story, it is Jeph Loeb. He's really very good. In Batman he plays some similar notes across the three big Bat-stories (Long Halloween, Dark Victory, and Hush) but he does it well, and he uses those common themes to back up the new story.

Hush art? Jim Lee was never a fave of mine once I started into artistic maturity. That's not to diss him as an artist. I first "met" him in Uncanny X-Men, and camparing the artwork to Hush is so fun. He's made some great strides which is exciting for me to see. He does a great job of presenting the story in an exciting way.

So I'd recomend this book, this particular release, if you are apreciate comic art. You see the page larger than average and get a view inside the process by way of extra features. I heartily recomend almost all the Absolute books!!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, Jeph and Lee should get married   April 23, 2008
If you love Batman buy this, if you don't love Batman buy this and you will. Loeb is a god; everything Batman he does is great. Lee is a excellent artists and Williams is great to but its really Loeb's story that got me. However, this is pricey. Your better off buying the regular version because there is really no difference except in size. But Absolute is a great book to collect and there really is no negative aspect to it. Basically all of Batman's people are in it and his romance with Catwoman is nicely written in.

5 out of 5 stars Jim Lee At His Best!   March 20, 2008

Jim Lee's artwork has always been visually stunning. His work alone made X-Men an award-winning comic book series. DC's decision to sign Jim Lee was very savvy and bold. Some fans did not like the fact that the Batman team were bringing back Jason Todd(the 2nd Robin). Jason was thought to be long dead after Death In The Family where he was basically murdered by the Joker. But the mystery of who Hush was harked back to the whodunit period of Batman mythos.Batman is best when it's a murder-mystery style. And once again Bruce Wayne/Batman is thrown into a psychological war with three dynamic people who have really drove him crazy over the years:Two-Face,Joker and Jason Todd.Eventually after this story,Batman would end up shooting the Joker in the face just for the hell of it.This is probably the first time that the Batman has tried to kill the Joker. But Commissioner Gordon keeps Batman from finishing the job. DC Comics insists that in this universe,Batman cannot be without the prescence of the Joker. It has always been that way.The Absolute DC collection presents complete storylines in prestige format. These editions are for hardcore fans and collectors with serious libraries of graphic novels. They are bound and put together very well and nice to look at too.I suggest picking up Absolute Kingdom Come,Absolute JL:New Frontier and Absolute Batman:Long Halloween.I just hope DC will do "Absolute" treatments of Knightfall,Death Of Superman and Green Lantern:Emerald Twilight, when Hal Jordan went nuts. This would make the Absolute collection complete. If you like gritty Batman stories, get this one right away!

5 out of 5 stars Absolute Batman Hush   February 28, 2008
If you are a fan of Jim Lee, this is a must. Nobody draws Batman like Lee can. This over-sized, heavy, brilliant edition is absolutely breathtaking. I spent more than two hours simply looking at the beautiful artwork before I read a word of it. The story is about average, not Leob's best work, but if you wanted simply the story you should be looking for the trade paperbacks. For all lovers of Batman and those fans of Jim Lee, this is well worth it. Simply brilliant. Superb.
