4 out of 5 stars Whales, Dolphins and Porpoises, Oh My!   November 12, 2007

Beautifully illustrated book about marine mammals. This book is targeted toward children, with lots of interesting content. Learn how young animals learn to swim, the differences between manatees and dugongs and the importance of blubber. Even covers my favorite: the platypus.

4 out of 5 stars Fish is fish... and mammals is mammals   June 3, 2007

When we think of ocean swimmers other than fish, whales and dolphins come to mind. This addition to the aquatic mammals section of the library introduces so many more -- otters, walruses, and some less obvious choices, such as polar bears and beavers. There is good information offered, but the organization makes it difficult to navigate. A table of contents and/or index would be a great help and this would become a much more useful reference tool. As it is, children will enjoy browsing and finding out more about their favorites. Carefully executed ink and watercolor illustrations are well-suited to the information presented as well as to the audience it addresses.
