4 out of 5 stars Dark > Scary > Violent > Adventurous > Cool > Funny >Dorky   March 8, 2007
THis is one of the thickest of the SW tales TPBs. As you can see, there's alot to this issue. It's probably not the one that you want to read to your kids before bed time, though. I wouldn't even want a teenager read #2 or #6. The first part is much too dark and evil for my liking but other comedy, Fett mania, and thought-provoking stories in the book made up for it. I knew Jar Jar would come in handy someday. Here's a brief Synopsis of each tale: (I really liked *)
1. Han Solo do-gooder story with zombies.
2. Teen Sith Wanabees.
3. Cover character's one appearance.
4. Chewie do-gooder story with phantoms.
5. The reason there's only two siths at a time.
6. Wicked, Twisted, Freaky Jedi chick.
7. Boba Fett is #1.*
8. Boba Fett Rules.*
9. Boba Fett has a heart.
10. Boba Fett has a cool dad.
11. Boba Fett won't die.*
12. Arachnid Artoo Mech-wierdness vs. Luke.
13. Space farers leave Gibbela alone.
14. A forgotten Clone Wars tale.
15. The Breakfast Club on the Death Star.*
16. Where Luke's first Lightsaber landed.*
17. Bigfoot story with a Harrison Ford cameo.*
18. C3P0 inspires a revolution in the devolved future.*
19. Jar Jar is an idiot.
20. Luke I'm your father practice.*
21. Jawas rip off the Oakies.
22. Young Luke solves a murder.
23. What became of the Wampa's severed arm.
24. Jar Jar is an idiot, still.*
25. Anakin and Padme work out the wedding details.
26. There's no place for Ewoks in the new republic.
27. Boba Fett's cousin demonstrates why no one has ever heard of him.*
28. Lando impersonates a Jedi.

--- A whole bunch of corny gag shorts by the editors.

The thing that most suprised me about this comic book was how many stories were in it! I was used to buying a $12-$13 book and getting only one story line. Then, I bought this one and was very pleasantly suprised at how long it took me to read it. Though these stories are non-canonical they are still very amusing. Because they are not integrated so tightly in the storyline of the Star Wars universe there are also more instaces of humor. Some of my favorites include The Apprentice, a story about a sith apprentice with an unexpected turn, Storyteller, an example of the power of inspirational stories, and finally the long titled: The Value of Proper Intelligence to any Sucessful Military Campaign is not to be Underestimated, a short, comical story about a victory against the Empire. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Star Wars comic books but is ready for something more comical and substancial.

4 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this... and I'm not really into EU stuff   April 23, 2006

Got this from the bookstore the other day because Fred Jawa told me to buy it, and immediately started reading it. This book has lots of comedy stories, lots of action stories, and several thought-provoking stories. Don't be discouraged if you have trouble keeping up with all the Star Wars Expanded Universe stuff, because most of this book is "infinities" (stuff that never happened... or just might have) Included in this collection was the all Boba Fett issue, so Boba fans should check this out. (It made ME a Boba fan) Personal favs: Melvin Fett (Boba's bumbling cousin), All For You, the Storyteller, and Being Boba Fett.

A note: this book is in the "over 12" category. There is plenty of blood and scary things, and a few swear words.

Star wars is a beloved universe that has many fans. Any fan that wants to get an interesting take on characters and their links to various stories within the starwars time frame should read the Star Wars Tales, including Vol. 5. I own all of the series and have enjoyed reading the alternate take on characters and their back stories. Darth Maul is even resurected in ghost form to battle the Jedi Knight, Luke Skywalker in a short encounter. If you are a Star Wars fan, you will enjoy this series and if you are a fan of the Expanded Universe, you will love them even more.
