Sad Sad Sad February 6, 2007 Yes I do own this movie and it saddens me as a diehard Godzilla fan. First off this wannabe is not Godzilla it will never be godzilla and I will know that. In Japan this little bugger is called Zilla, if you want to find out this stuff go purchase Godzilla Final Wars and watch the true King of the Monsters crush this imposter like he's a bug. This creature is never going to remotely be Godzilla in my opinion.
Some of the people who say they are diehard fans of Godzilla think people like me are nuts. I'm not I just have watched Godzilla since the 1954 black and white movie. Godzilla has a distinctive look a distinctive personality, he is supposed to be the ultimate incarnate of power and destruction. This movie pawns Godzilla off as a weakling and a loser.
You want some advice stick with Japan Godzilla bad dubbing, some sad plot points at times, but still it is what I call "True Godzilla". Especially check out the newer Godzilla's that go from I believe Godzilla, Mothra, and Ghidorah Giant Monsters All Out Attack. Wrap it all up with Godzilla Final Wars also. Those are good movies, this is a joke. Even Toho studios thinks its a joke.

Last year this DVD made the mailman popular with our (then) 4yr old grandson. He begged to see it, and then cowered in my lap during a few parts. Introduced the concept that the French bomb made a happy lizard into a fire breathing giant that will look into our upstairs window when he smells farts (whisper...godzilla!).
"Purists" hate this movie - I liked it. January 1, 2007 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
So it isn't a Toho production, and doesn't fit the mold of the Japanese-produced Godzilla movies. It was still entertaining!
They still could not.. December 19, 2006 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
They made it with decent special effects, a nice jab\ode to Siskel and Ebert, the made godzilla look like an actual creature\animal that could exist....but it's still not a scary as a guy in a rubber suit kicking around model trains and balsa-wood models.
HOW ABOUT ANOTHER TITLE? November 29, 2006 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Yeah we all know this isn't THE BIG G. He has personality, a soul. This thing is just a special effect run amuck. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? Why violate Godzilla? All they had to do was change a few scenes around and call this the remake of BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS, which this movie is actually closer to than GODZILLA. So trash NYC! Let it end in Disney World atop the most current ride attraction...& have a worker dressed in a Mickey Mouse costume fire the radioactive isotope!!! Now it becomes another Tim Burton remake, but that may be good. I saw this film when it hit the theaters and have it on vhs & dvd. I enjoyed it (and still do) a whole heck of alot. It's fast-paced & action-packed! It's exciting & funny! It's a good time for all & a very fine giant monster on the loose film...but it just ain't GODZILLA!!! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?
