5 out of 5 stars Stealth   July 6, 2008

3 out of 5 stars Great special effects and fast planes but.......   May 5, 2008
This is one of those movies which is visually slick and has great special effects - but lacks any real heart or chemistry with its actors. Its obviously had a lot of money spent on the movie and the sets and technology looks really good. However, in some ways it tries to pack too much in and there's so much emphasis on the technology that the people in the story come off second best - they are all too good at what they do and too unbelievably pretty to be real.

If you are after a popcorn movie and love fast planes and good special effects then this is for you - but for movies about prototype machines which go bad other vintage movies like BLUE THUNDER have done the same thing better.

5 out of 5 stars blu-ray made it better   April 20, 2008
This is one of my favorite movies so even though I alredy owned it I bought on blu ray. It was well worth it. I have recently switched over to blu-ray and hd satellite and I am still amazed at the quality difference. (I never got into high def before this)

1 out of 5 stars boring   March 26, 2008
I can't remember seeing the end of it cause I got bored and I didnt want to waste any more of my precious time.
The only good thing about it is that I saw it in Blu-ray.

4 out of 5 stars Good effects, exciting premise, simple plot - great   March 24, 2008
I liked the film, despite the criticisms about simple-minded plot, lack of complex storyline, and character shallowness.

THAT was what I appreciated! No deep subplots, no complicated storyline to muck up the excitement of this fast-paced adventure. Easy to "get into" and enjoy the rollercoaster ride.

I wanted to see attractive, brave, smart fighter pilots, and the sexy awesome machines they fly. It's in here! Check!

I appreciated a "simple" story that was able to fulfil its stated purpose: thrills, action, planes. There's not a slowdown in the story to deal with "deep" psychological stuff.

If I wanted deep military messages in a film, I'd watch "Good Morning Vietnam", or "All Quiet on the Western Front".

This is indeed more "Top Gun" than drama. It is a movie for those of us who just want to be entertained, have a happy ending, and get to the point fast.

It does provoke thought, if you reflect on the AI-driven plane, whose call name becomes "Tin Man". Yes, it has "issues" after being in a lightning storm. He misbehaves because he sees a human pilot do so first.

The real twister is that Tin Man becomes more of a person, developing feelings of guilt. His own creator is baffled as to how his neural pathways have grown so much.

That is the mystery of artificial intelligence. How far can a machine go, which is programmed to learn and to draw its own conclusions based on what it experiences?

You want a complex take on that, go watch "Terminator".

For a fun romp that won't overload YOUR circuits, try this one out.

I think it's appropriate for anyone but grade-school kids, but then I don't like pre-teens getting desensitized to violence and thinking killing is cool. That goes for any violence-based story. At least this one is not too gory, and is fairly realistic about political duplicity, without getting heavy-handed with the message.

If you want to "study" screenplays, this is an ACE pick. Like they said, straight forward, fairly simple, and delivered what it promised. Thus, a successful commercial screenplay. Cheers!
