very very good. May 9, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am jewish, and every year or so around passover we watch this. its an incredible superproduction; I read in a Variety Movie Guide that 25,000 extras were used. The only real problem with it is its length; it takes 8 days and 8 nights to watch. True, it may take a while to tell the story of passover, but it could have been shortened a lot for the better.
The greatest biblical epic of all time! May 7, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This movie is SUPERB! Forget the critics and take yourself back to ancient Egypt in all its glory. "The Ten Commandments" has it all: melodrama, rich color, magnificent sets, eye-popping sepecial effects, and stirring music. Lavish in every respect, this film has stood the test of time. I loved it when it was first released, and I'm still impressed with DeMille's greatest achievement; who else could direct thousands of extras in such sweeping scenes or make the biblical 'miracles' seem so plausible? It ranks with QUO VADIS and BEN-HUR: So let it be written, so it was done!
ALL-TIME GREAT!!! April 27, 1999 This is without a doubt, one of the greatest, most compelling and passionate movies ever made!! The story of Moses leading his people from the bondage of Egypt and Ramses is one that can never be forgotten. Charleton Heston, Yul Bryner, Edward G. Robinson, Anne Baxter, and John Derek all played outstanding roles. If you haven't seen this movie, boy you're missing out on something special!!
My all-time favorite movie ever! April 19, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the film that made me a firm and true believer in the Word of God, especially when I saw that Red Sea part open and then crush Pharoah's army. Not even the effects in "The Prince of Egypt" can equal what this film presents. Charlton Heston will forever be remembered for his role as Moses as will the landmark effects and visuals. This and "Ben-Hur" belong on the video shelf next to each other. No video shelf should be without this one!
