3 out of 5 stars This must be based on a true story   January 15, 2007

Faced with all kinds of problems from infidelity to broken nails Valerie's (Geena Davis) troubles have just began as aliens invade her pool. She must help them acclimate to our way of life. Soon the aliens learn that earth girls are easy.

They say that truth is stranger than fiction. This movie is awfully strange so it must be true. The "out of the area" visitors are easy to keep track of when they are color-coded. The songs were great and relevant.

All of the main actors went on to bigger and I guess you can say better movies. Another early Jim Carrey movie is "Once Bitten" (1985). The best Julie Brown movie is "Out There" (1995), where she describes certain alien appendages as being curved like the space-time continuum.

This is one of those movies that you may want to put on again in the background. And look up in time for your favorite parts.

Out There Starring: Bill Campbell, Wendy Schaal

4 out of 5 stars A silly film , but good none the less   December 7, 2005

I really like this movie. The whole point is to be silly. If you dont like stupid movies, then you shouldn't get this one.It will probaly just annoy you. The DVD is actually pretty cool. There are several features including Sing along versions of all the songs . If you like this movie the DVD is definitly worth it. You can get it for five fifty at walmart.

5 out of 5 stars California Crayola   August 15, 2005

This movie is crayon colorful in its outlook and its sophistication. Stars Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum are joined by relative unknowns Jim Carrey and Daymon Wayans in a romp through Southern California. Puns, silliness, sex jokes (it's PG so they're not lewd), satire, and some of Julie Brown's funniest songs are highlights.

Mac (Goldblum) is captain of an alien space ship that crash lands in Valerie's (Davis) pool because of the antics of his sexually deprived side kicks Wiploc (Carrey) and Zeebo (Wayans). The three hairy spacemen cheerfully turn Valerie's life from a disaster to. . . absolute chaos.

Julie Brown (Candy) and Michael McKean (Woody) steal the show with wonderful bits. When Candy wins "this month's Miss August" and sings "I'm a Blonde" listen and rewind to hear it again. It's a hoot! You won't recognize McKeen, from "Laverne and Shirley", "This is Spinal Tap" or, more recently, "A Mighty Wind." He makes a delightful Woody: the pool man with a surfing obsession and the IQ of a carrot. This DVD would be a good first step toward your own Michael McKean movie collection.

I originally saw this movie in 1989 as part of a Women's Movie Festival, Brown shares author credits. "Earth Girls are Easy" is based on her song of the same name. This is the movie I watch when I want a cheer-me-up.
