4 out of 5 stars Still one of Murray's funniest   April 23, 2008

One of the films that helped make Bill Murray one of the most bankable comedy stars is certainly Stripes, and though I have never been one to label it a "classic" per se', the film still remains one of Murray's funniest. Though it hasn't aged as well as one may hope, Stripes features Murray, Harold Ramis, and John Candy moving towards their respective creative peaks, and in those respects alone, Stripes is a triumph of time. I won't delve into the storyline (you either know it by now or can read other reviews here), but this Extended Cut DVD features some extra footage that can be interlaced with the film. Sadly, most of this extra footage doesn't amount to a whole lot, and makes the film run for much longer than it really should. That aside though, Stripes remains one of the funniest films of Bill Murray's career, and the fact that the film is still enjoyable to this day surely amounts for something.

PROBABLY the best Bill Murray movie of ALL TIME! A must have for the comedy collector. The extra scenes are neato how they mark them with a star during the movie. Funny Movie!

If you like silly funny movies, this one is for you. I've always loved this movie and when I thought about getting it on DVD, I came here. Good price, good movie. Nuff said.

4 out of 5 stars Early, funny vehicle   December 21, 2007
This early farce from Murray, Ramos, and Candy might still be their best, and joins the ranks of the few light-hearted comedies (such as Francis in the Navy) about life in the military. Each turns in a fine performance, and Warren Oates is also great as the drill sergeant, himself a great character actor who passed away after a distinguished career shortly after the film's release. Sean Young would later go on to star in Bladerunner. The hiliarious parade ground scene is worth the the price of the film by itself, as well as Murray's comment, "No, but we're willing to learn." (I won't spoil the surprise by revealing the scene but you'll know it when you see it). The idea of a field test of an urban assault vehicle (which looks like a big Winnebago but bristling with weapons) careening from misadventure to misadventure when our heroes decide to cross the border into the eastern bloc, provides plenty of opportunity for comedy and adventure, and the whole caste looks like they're having a blast. As someone said previously, the test of a good comedy is that it's still funny on repeated viewings, and this is one of those that's still worth your time and money.
