So, I read this steaming pile and decided to hold my piece, what with all the readers whining about giving the series a chance to get off the ground before being ripped apart by angry fans. Now we've seen the second and the third issue come out.
Useless fights, terrible dialogue, and freakin' dinosaurs later it's apparent that Loeb and Mad want to destroy a good thing. Then again, maybe Marvel is planning on cancelling the series and wanted to kill fan interest first, I don't know.
All I do know, is that not only is this not worth your time, but those of us who have bought the issues should get a refund and a real run of the series as an apology. If you haven't read it yet, and are actually considering doing so, just eat some lead-based paint chips and save yourself the trouble.
Absolutely not worth buying.
goodbye boring, hello action! March 22, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
people say it sucks. those people couldn't be more wrong. stunning and energetic artwork combined with unique storytelling make this one of the best marvel comics in years. don't listen to the haters (sans girlfriends, living in their parent's basements). buy it, enjoy it, demand more comics as wonderful as Ultimates 3!

Although only three issues into this series (#4 is delayed until April, the delays seemingly the only thing carried over from the first two series) I think it is safe to review this series much like a paramedic can safely say someone having suffered a devastatingly horrific injury due to an accident is going to die, and soon. What was once an interesting commentary on what the world would really be like were super-heroes or, as Mark Millar liked to call them "Persons of Mass Destruction", has now found itself likened to a reality television show. Personally, I refer to Ultimates 3 as "Real World: Stark Mansion." Loeb's work has been more about cheap thrills, and seems to take it's inspiration from TMZ as opposed to CNN, and the artwork looks as though it has been forced due to Joe Mad wanting to make a splash in comics once again. My recommendation is read at your own risk, but be warned that if you've already read volumes one and two, after reading these issues/tpb you will put them down and ask, quite possibly out loud: "What happened here?"

Ok i have to admit it is not easy to stand out against part 1&2.... but this? I mean honestly: They can't be serious. This is worse than pulp fiction. Don't buy it, you will be more than disappointed.

Ultimates 1 & 2 were so well done and fun to read so when I heard 3 was on its way I was excited. But I have to say, I found myself more then a little disappointed. Where do you go wrong? Well, how about by not bringing back to the original writer and artist. They made the comic feel like a movie. Now it doesn't. It just doesn't work. Skip if you can.
