5 out of 5 stars Groundhog Day   April 4, 2008

This is without a doubt the best film I have seen starring Bill Murray. It has a powerful combination of great writing, a wonderful cast, and even a lesson to learn. It also has a nice combination of comedy and romance, so that neither are neglected. Bill Murray is phenomenal! He starts out this shallow shell, and undergoes character development and change, but it is gradual and believable. Andie MacDowell and Chris Elliot were great choices for supporting characters.

Groundhog Day is one of the best films of all time and also the best movie of the 1990's. This film would be a good movie to watch on Groundhog Day.

This is one of the funniest films of the Nineties, in my opinion. Bill Murray perfectly captures a thoroughly dislikable, self-centered jerk whose soul is polished by having to re-live the same day over and over till he gets it right. In the process, the vignettes of his sometimes clumsy efforts are hysterical. A wonderful collection of one-liners, too.

Bill Murray stars in this brilliant and classic comedy film as a T.V. weatherman named Phil working for a local station in Pennsylvania, this film has got to be the funniest and best films to come out of the 90's and Bill Murray is at his best as a sarcastic and selfcentered but still charming weatherman, he treats his co-workers with contempt and its utterly hilarious watching Bill Murray as he keeps saying his sarcastic lines. Phil gets sent on an assignment (which he really loathes) to the annual Groundhog Day festivities in Puxsutawney PA where the citizens await the appearance of Puxsutawney Phil the groundhog who will supposedly determine the length of winter by his ability to see his own shadow. Phil Conners gets upset when a blizzard he didn't predict keeps him in town overnight but that is nothing compared to the fact that when he wakes up its February the 2nd all over again, it seems like the calendar has just stopped for Phil and he lives the same day over and over and over ect. and all kinds of hilarious stuff happens. This film however is not just a comedy but is also a character study as Phil realises that nothing changes except himself and how he affects those around him including his new producer Rita played by Andie Macdowell who also develops a relationship with Phil but first she finds him to be very obnoxious but they do eventually fall in love. Bill Murray was fantastic as usual check out the several confrontations between Phil and his old school mate Ned or when Phil decides to rob a bank great stuff, this film was highly entertaining and one of the funniest films I've ever seen. if you liked Groundhog Day then I highly recommend these other Bill Murray films Caddyshack, Scrooged, What About Bob, Stripes, Rushmore and Kingpin.

5 out of 5 stars Punxsutawney Bill   February 18, 2008

Hard to believe it has been fifteen years since this comedy classic was released. Fortunately GROUNDHOG DAY is standing the test of time and is still one of the funniest films ever made. If you don't know the premise Bill Murray stars as an obnoxious Pittsburgh weatherman who resents almost everything about his job and especially his annual trip to small town Punxsutawney, PA to cover the Groundhog Day festival there. After behaving abominably to his producer(Andie MacDowell), cameraman (Chris Elliot) and all the small town folk there a blizzard comes in and closes all the roads out of Punxsutawney putting Bill in panic stricken sarcasm overdrive. But the blizzard is the least of his problems. Bill finds by some magical time loop he has to keep repeating February 2 until he gets it right. Highly recommended though I will warn you I had the tune to Pennsylvania Polka in my head for several days after watching this.
