5 out of 5 stars This is a magazine subscription we all need.   October 1, 2008
I know it kills trees to produce a magazine but this one is well worth the read in the long run. It talks about all the things we can do to make less pollution, less waste and live a little greener.

In this summer issue there's an article on green laundry detergents. It not only talks about the cleaning solutions using environment friendly ingredients but also doing things like buying "concentrated" detergents so there's less of a bottle to wind up in a landfill. It talks about making your own detergents which is what I am moving toward. My recipe is to take Borox, Arm & Hammer Baking soda (don't use a generic they can clump too bad) and then add essential oils that are antibacterial and antiseptic naturally. I purchase my essentials oils from www.thehappysoul.com but you could find them anywhere.

Powder laundry detergent is the more environmentally friendly choice although liquid is the most popular right now. Its lack of water makes it more energy-efficient to truck around the country and it comes in recycled plastic containers or cardboard boxes. All are better eco-friendly choices.

Another product the magazine talks about is shampoo. Conventional shampoos contain so many harmful chemicals and different synthetic chemicals mixed together, it's only natural to think that 50-60 years of exposure to these chemicals would add up. A better eco-friendly choice is to make your own shampoo. Again, I use Happy Soul products but just by purchasing a plant based shampoo is much better for you and your environment. The magazine suggested, Burt Bee's, Avalon Organics, among others.

The next topic covered is towels. It talks about organic cotton, bamboo and wood pulp fabric towels. I've been using bamboo socks and love them so now I'll have to check out the towels.

This is my first issue of this magazine and I know there are lots of ways to become environmentally friendly and we all have to start somewhere. I've started with the laundry detergents, carpet deodorizers and window cleaners. I refill my water bottles from the faucet. I recycle my newspapers. I use all fluorescent lightbulbs. I only run the dishwasher when its full. I use a rain barrel. And there are lots more ways and things we could all do.

If we all start somewhere then we've all started somewhere. This magazine is a great place for those who are truly trying to become more eco-conscious.
