We are classically homeschooling our children using "The Well-Trained Mind" book. Originally, we used a boxed science curriculum (BJU), but recently switched over to doing science more the way The Well-Trained Mind suggests. Our first week's study was on habitats and this is one of the books we used for our first grade student. It is *fantastic*! I did not find it too simplistic at all (and I was worried after reading the above 'professional' review) even though this child reads on a 4th grade level. It has wonderful photographs and just the right amount of information per page -- opposed to some of the newer books with confusing layouts that can be overwhelming to a young reader. I logged on to Amazon today to buy this book -- and as many others in this set that I can afford! I highly recommend this book! :)
