I am a biologist and found this book filled with inspiration because it offered so many ways we all can help with saving the sea turtles. I plan to do my part, how about you?

5 out of 5 stars Sea Turtle Lovers: Your Book Has Arrived!   September 10, 2005

James Spotila has produced one of those "labor of love" books that belongs on the shelf or coffee table of anyone who has ever enjoyed viewing a sea turtle.

Up to now these poorly understood gentile reptiles have been exploited to near extinction. Hopefully now the new understanding that these are wonderful sea creatures that deserve protection and respect is here to stay. Mr. Spotila's book will make a turtle lover out of anyone and I hope that it is widely read and becomes that classic natural history book on the 7 species of sea turtle that it should be.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent "must have" book   August 12, 2005

If you are looking for a excellent, well-written book on sea turtles, this is the book for you. "Sea Turtles..." is written at a level that all can enjoy. It is not dry and academic but at the same time it is not a "fluff" book on sea turtles. Much of his focus is on conservation and after reading the book you will understand why. The graphics and photographs are really nice and add much to the book. Moreover, the price of the book makes it a "must have" for teachers, naturalists or anyone who has an interest in these great and imperilled animals.

5 out of 5 stars entertaining and visually delightful   April 24, 2005

Anyone who has gone snorkeling or diving and encoountered a sea turtle knows these animal are beautiful creatures. Their beauty and diversity are captured in the spectacular photographs of this book. But James Spotila's book goes far beyond the beauty of the animal. In a clearly written and entertaining style, the author has provided a wealth of interesting information about these lovely animals. The most eye-opening chapter for me was the one dealing with conservation issues. Without the help of conservationist, the future of sea turtles is uncertain. Hopefully this book will enlighten others too so that future generations will also be able to admire sea turtles.

5 out of 5 stars Sea Turtles...a great read   April 10, 2005

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The text was interesting, informative and understandable to the "non-scientist" reader such as myself. The photographs were beautiful. The bios of some of the diverse individuals working to save the turtles from extinction were inspiring. I also like the fact that Mr. Spotila is donating royalties to sea turtle conservation. It would truly be a shame if these ancient creatures disappeared from our world.
