4 out of 5 stars For Kids Who Love Plot   August 25, 2008
Think living under the Witness Protection Plan sounds cool? Think again. Roland Smith's page-turner is about as close as you can get to a "sure thing" for kids who claim they don't like to read. From start to finish, the plot's the thing, and as long as you don't expect too much else from it, you will come away very pleased with this book.

Jack Osbourne's life is turned upside down when his pilot father lands in prison for helping a South American drug lord ship drugs. Along with his mother and sister, Jack must adopt a new identity (Zach Granger) and live in a new part of the country (Elko, Nevada). There he meets a girl (Catalin) he likes and a boy (Peter Short) he will regret meeting. Most important, he meets an unusual custodian named Sam Sebesta, who introduces him to the local Basque sheep herders (an interesting tangent that goes beyond the plot, though it's not developed much).

Kids will love the finish as the drug cartel goons hunt Zach and family down and eventually follow the trail to Nevada. Recommended for boys especially and suitable for all ages, from mid-elementary to 8th grade.

4 out of 5 stars Create Your Own Review   March 27, 2008
Zach P. review of Zach's Lie by Roland Smith, March 16, 2008.
Zach Granger is a kid who has to lie a lot, like about his name, which is really Jack Osborne, and about where he came from. His dad is in the DEA's custody for trafficking drugs for a drug lord. Jack and his mom and sister are put into the witness protection agency to keep them safe. Zach is having trouble with his new life, especially having to keep track of his lies, for he does not want to slip up. He feels weird about lying to his new girlfriend, Catalin also. Zach's new school custodian reveals that he is an x spy. When Alanzo Aznar's men come, Sam and Zach piece together a trap to catch them. This is a suspenseful book with many twists and turns and a surprise ending. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes suspense novels

Jack Osborne is a 12 year old boy in the 7th grade with an imaginary friend named commander IF (Imaginary Friend). Three men broke into their house in the middle of the night; Agent Pelton said it had something to do with their dad. Agent Pelton said he found their dad down in Texas and said they locked him up down town because he was transferring drugs throughout North and South America. Agent Pelton said his dad worked for a man named Alonzo. Alonzo has warehouses throughout America. Jacks Dad wants to put his family in the Whiteness Security Program. The Osborne's changed their names and hair color. Their new names are the Grangers and they moved to Elko, Nevada. Will Alonzo ever find the Grangers in Elko, Nevada?

I believe this is a great book and I recommend it for kids and adults that read fluently. I like this book because it keeps you thinking and they travel all around trying to become people that their not and trying to fit in.
