One star is too many May 6, 2005 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
I read "My Side of the Mountain" as a child. It remained one of the few children's books that I reread once a decade or so. Then I read the second book. Not as good, but sequels seldom are. Then I read this piece of excrement. Thankfully, I borrowed it from the library and didn't pay any money for it.
Mrs. George takes her wonderful tale and turns it into this tiresome ham-fisted tirade against business and government. There's an awkward screed against one group or another in every chapter - with only a few of the "enlightened" not tarred and feathered.
I used to be a fan. Now, I doubt I'll give my niece and nephew any of her books for fear they might read this one.
A really great book -Alexia's book review January 19, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Frightful's Mountain
This book is called Frightful's Mountain by Jean Craighead George. It's a five star action packed story. This book is for people who like birds, survival, or an adventure. I think this book genre is a survival fiction book. This is about a boy named Sam, a boy who ran away from home, lived in the wilderness for a long time. He ran away from New York because it was too noisy and crowded. He had a peregrine falcon but he wasn't old enough to have a peregrine falcon! So an officer took his falcon away! He had this falcon since it was a baby! His falcon, Frightful, a brave and heroic one, never learned to hunt! I like this book because it makes me want to read on. Also, I can feel the action and it seems like I'm in the scene. It's so cool. The book has detailed action. Do you think Frightful will survive? Or will she not? Most importantly, will they ever meet again?

A Book For When You're Bored August 8, 2003 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
I had to read this book for a project at school and I thought My Side of the Mountain was boring. Then I read On the Far Side of the Mountain and I thought that was better than the first. Then finally I read Frightful's Flight and I learned so much. I learned a lot about falcons and how to take care if them. I enjoyed this book and I thought it was a lot better than the first two. But I still think that this book is better to read when you're really bored.

" Frightful's Mountain" is a mouthful of adventure. It tells how a falcon tries to survive in the wild. This book is unforgettable. I give great thanks to Jean Craighead George; she did a wonderful job. She did so well you would not be able to stop reading. "Frightful's Mountain" gives a message that tell you that everything happens for a reason and that little animal can do a lot of things. At least I think so. I recommend this book to everyone for all ages, and I give this book a well deserved four stars.
