4 out of 5 stars Frightful's Mountain   December 4, 2001
The main character, in this book is a Peregrine Falcon named Frightful. Frightful is taken from her nest to a tree cottage in dheli, owned by Sam Gribley. Frightful was raised in captivity. When Sam let Frightful go, Frightful faced many problems in the real world! Frightful's goal was to migrate south without getting lost, she accomplished her goal by following a group of Falcons south. One of the problems Frightful overcame was when she flew into two utility wires and fell to the ground with her wing almost burnt!
I like the authors writing style because she puts the story in Frightful's point of view. She is also a wonderful author because she makes the book enjoyable for everybody to read. She makes the story come alive. When the story starts it is a little boring but as the story goes on the energy builds up and she puts hints and clues in the story.

5 out of 5 stars A pick up to loose ends.   June 22, 2001

This was a great follow up story to the Far Side of the Mountain. In the end, you wonder what happened to Frightful after she was released into the wild, and this is the perfect story to conclude it. I loved the detail of how Jean Craighead George described Frightful's actions. It is an easy story to get caught up in. Anyone who reads this won't be able to put it down until they're finished, especially if they have read the previous two books. Definetly a winner in my collection!!

4 out of 5 stars Interesting and Informative   April 7, 2001

Having read the first two books about Frightful, My Side of the Mountain and The Far Side of the Mountain, I was anxious to read Frightful's Mountain. As in her other books, George weaves in important information related to environmental issues. While informative, the narrative is entertaining and suspenseful. The forward by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is a testament to how George's books have influenced many young people's lives over the years. Sam Gribley's care for the environment is an example we should all follow. Anyone who has ever lost, or had to give up, a beloved pet will be able to identify with this touching story.

My class has not yet finished the book but we have only about 15 more pages to go. So far I think this is a very nice book. It is about a boy named Sam Gribley and his peregrine falcon named Frightful. About half way into the story Frightful finds Sam. I was very happy that they got back together again. Anyway, about 40 pages after that section Frightful is nesting and going to have 3 baby falcons. But, there's this crew of men who need to fix this bridge and they can't until Frightful's finished nesting. The workers say "No, we have to do this now." Now, the kids at school are going on strike, saying "Save the Peregrines", Forget about the bridge." And that's pretty much all I can think of. Well, so long.

Frightful's Mountain is the sequel to My Side of the Mountain, and On the Far Side of the Mountain. It is about a boy named Sam Gribley. In this book Sam is worried that his falcon, Frightful is so attached him she won't be able to mate, or migrate. Will she be able to live on her own? To find out you must read the book.
