5 out of 5 stars My Side Of The Mountain   December 19, 2007

Have you ever felt like you want to run away? Well thats what Sam Gribley a boy living in NYC (New York City) did. This is my all time favorite book its a real page turner you wont be able to put it down this all happened to me when I picked up my side of the mountain!
My mom made my favorite food and I couldnt even put it down for that.

Now back to the book. Sam Gribley is a boy who runs away to the mountains away from his family because he was angry with them.
During his journey he steals a baby falcon and names it Frightful, he trains her and they become good friends. Now he is struggling to survive in the cold winters on the Catskill Mountains.
Because of its illistraions and adventure packed chapters I give it 5 stars!
Will he survive? Youll have to read it and find out.

"My Side of the Mountain" by Jean Craighead George is a book about a boy named Sam Gribley. He lives is New York City With his parents and eight brothers and sisters. He tells his parents that he is going to run away to the old Gribley Farm up in the Catskill Mountains. His parents Believed him but they thought that he was only going to stay up there for a day or two but Sam proved them wrong. Sam set up camp or "home" as he liked to call it.. Sam met an old lady who went up in the Catskill Mountains every year to pick strawberries from the strawberry patch and make her homemade strawberry jam. She introduced herself to Sam and when she went into town later that day she told the news paper about Sam. Sam found out about it after he met "Bando" who was a English professor. He met him up in the mountains Bando was a hiker who stopped to take a rest and fell asleep. Sam found out about it when he came up for Christmas. Bando showed Sam all the newspaper clippings about him. Sams dad came up during Christmas which was a surprise to Sam. He lived up in the Catskills until June when his parents and all his brothers and sisters came up to meet him. His mom Said that " if we cant bring him home then we will bring home to him" So they built a house and then lived happily ever after.

1 out of 5 stars This book made hell look like a walk on the beach.   April 9, 2004

It was horrible!!!!!!!!
One review said "The book made you feel like the main character."
If he ever attempted to kill himself, than I agree 100%. The most climactic incident was when his berries went bad. The people who officially rated it probably did one of the following:
(1)Got payed off by the author
(2)Got the cliffnotes
(3)All of the above
If anybody else actually DID read it, than you probably agree with me when I say that we should chop all of them up into little, tiny pieces, set them on fire, attach them to a nuclear bomb and launch them into the middle of the Sahara desert.
Never read this book under risk of the following side-effects:
Nausea, headache, obsessive compulsive disorder, seizures, severe bleeding and loss of private parts. DO NOT READ IT!

4 out of 5 stars The best book of its kind!   October 24, 2000

The book On the Far Side of the Mountain is an instant classic. This book keeps me on the edge of my seat. When Sam loses his best friend and greatest survival tool it looks like that is all the book is going to be about. It turns out that Sam learns to survive all over again on new places of his mountains. He also learns how to use a sling (like in David and Goliath). Then when his voyage was complete he found himself in a mess of criminals and thieves. Read it!
