My Side of the Mountain March 16, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The book I read is a pretty fun book! The book My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George is a book where a boy runs away from the city to the mountains. He finds out how to live.
Later he gets a pet falcon and names it Frightful. Soon he finds a man, but he thinks he's a bandit, then he becomes friends with the man. The boy, Sam, finds out he's a professor. He's good at making jam too.
Before the winter he has Halloween with the animal friends he has made, and invites them to his house inside a tree, but it doesn't turn out well after the party.
Sam kills some deer and rabbit to make clothes for the winter. He wears the rabbit's fur as underwear because it's waterproof.
After the winter his parents and sister come to visit him, but they are going to live in a cabin instead of his tree house, so he gets angry but later calms down. I think the writer wants the reader to try running away. I like it because I think I would try running away in the mountains to see what happens.
I highly recommend this book for both parents and kids to read.
A Fifth Grader's Point of View March 15, 2007 This book has a lot of adventure and excitment. I would recomend it to somebody who has an open mind and is very adventurous. Once you start reading you can't stop because it always has a new adventure in the next chapter. I think I could surrive in the wilderness now that I have read the book.
A Classic March 14, 2007 I read this book several dozen times when I was a kid, vicariously living my dream of making it in the wild. Some kids are bored with it (it goes into quite a bit of detail, and is slow-paced), but others love it. It tends to interest kids with a lot of imagination or an inclination to be a writer. The sequels don't hold a candle to the original.

I am a sixth grader. I thought My Side of the Mountain was a very good book. It was a very adventurous book. It is about a kid named Sam who has dreamed to run away from home. He found a tree that was big enough for him to live in and he burned out the inside of it to make a house. Sam goes through harsh weather and eats only berrys, turtle soup, and some meat that he hunts for. I loved this book so much and i would recamend this book for people who like adventure books. I would rate this book a five star book because it was so good and there was a lot of intresting things in this book, like what kind of food is good to eat in the woods and what kinds of food isn't so good to eat. I really enjoyed this book. But to find out if Sam makes it through the winter and all the harsh weather you will have to read the book and find out what happens at the end.
A cool book March 2, 2007 My side of the mountain is a book everyone can enjoy. Everyone dreams the same thing Sam does and that is why it is such a good book because it shows what would happen if we ran away into the mountains. Kids definatly enjoy this i know i read it in class. At some parts it can have stuff you wont enjoy but early in the book and close to the end are very good.Even parents will like it. It is really cool at a lot of parts in the middle but a few you would not be interested that just build up until the next event in the story.
