for classroomsJuly 14, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book to add to my collection of books on oceans for my classroom. The book is very informative and has great illustrations. However, the little hard back in only about the size of the palm of my hand which makes it difficult in the classroom for me to read it to them because they want to see the pictures and it gets lost in the scuffle of classroom use.
A wonderful story through the eyes of a baby whaleJune 28, 2000 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My husband purchased this book at the store when ten month old son wouldn't put it down. It remains his favorite book after six months! The story is told from the viewpoint of a baby whale, who accurately and simply tells of his life in the great ocean. The pictures are complex and true-to-life, well drawn, and holds the full attention of my very active toddler. The book focuses both on the actions of the sea creatures in the story as well as the feelings of the baby whale through his experiences with his mother whale.
My son loves this story and sits completely still on my lap, pointing to all of the colorful sea creatures and turning the pages. I love the size of the book, which is tall and easy for toddlers to grab.
The complexity of thought and feeling found within this book is amazing in what is essentially a toddler board book. I think this book will last for at least a few years to come.
