Excellent study bible November 15, 2006 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
The NIV is an excellent translation and the study edition also has many excellent notes and summaries which assist the student of the bible at many points. The commentary is based a lot on Reformed theology, so non-Protestant Christians may find some of it disagreeable, and the other flaw from my point of view is this book omits the apocrypha. Even if not considered as part of the canon, I think I would have deeply appreciated the notes and scholarship that would be brought to bear on those interesting books.
Still, this is an excellent bible and will be of excellent use for theology students, seminarians, devotional purposes, church bible study groups and for private study.
Holds Such a Place in My Heart October 15, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This NIV study Bible has been such a precious wonderful tool that God has used in my life to sanctify me with his Word. The NIV translation itself is such a smooth and easy read without going too far toward the paraphrase direction like some modern translations are prone to do. In speaking about the study notes, we must always keep in mind that they are not infallible, but in the case of this particular Bible, the notes are so utterly helpful in understanding the text. This is the primary Bible I use when conducting personal and group Bible study. I think that every Christian in the english speaking world would do good to get one of these Bibles. Praise the Lord for an easy to understand yet true-to-the-text study Bible! Thank you.
An excellent study Bible September 17, 2006 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is an excellent study Bible, with easy to read and understand notes on just about every passage in the Bible. While I prefer the NKJV, the NIV is very easy to read and understand. An excellent addition to your library!
NIV does it again. August 8, 2006 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I've been using this study bible since the first copies came off the press. I have recommended it to many Christains and even given my older copies to those who could use them. This revision continues the same standard of presentation, notes to help one read and understand the word of God as you go along. Charts, maps, diagrams, chronologies, illustrations, a subject listing, concordance and all within this 2200 page bible. I prefer the standard size as the print is readable and clean. The biblical scholarship of the contributors is soundly evangelical. It's good to see that an Australian of the calibre of the late Dr Leon Morris, has written the notes on 1,2 Thessalonians, and on his finest work, the Gospel of John. Overall this bible is concerned more with the text as it is, and less with the critical details, which is much needed and continuing emphasis. I need to hear what the original authors were communicating from the Living God. A great and life-long investment for all who want to hear the Word for today.

I was very pleased to find exactly what I wanted and it took only a few days to get it. I am enjoying studying with this new Bible.
