A Good Book for Learning September 2, 2008 I purchased this book in order to help my daughter out who had just been diagnosed with having AD/HD. She is only 4 but yes she has it. The book AD/HD Parenting Handbook: Practical Advise for Parents is a good book. It has a lot of different ways to help out your child who had AD/HD. It gives you little pointers and also has a little checklist for you to help you through the rough times.
I have found that with this book it gives you tips like instead of spanking your child that has the impulsive kind of AD/HD to put them into Timeout. This method has worked well for my daughter and I find that if I even mention the word TimeOut she gets quiet and behaves for me. Also we have set up a rewards system for her and that is great for us. She has her certain duties she needs to do daily and then she will get a smiley face for her good deeds. At the end of the week she will have a reward that she has earned.
I highly recommend this book to those out there who just doesn't understand why their child acts the way they do when they have AD/HD. It also helps you out by giving you little tips and different things to try with your child and gives you homework too. It's a book that I will have for years to come.
for every parent with an ADD ADHD child! February 8, 2008 Every parent needs a handbook when it comes to raising an ADD ADHD child. that may seem silly to some, but we ADDers have a very unique way of thinking and acting. Having gone through a difficult childhood with undiagnosed ADD, I can only wish this book had been available to my parents when I was growing up. This is a true handbook with first person, parents accounts! ~~

All the information I wanted and needed to know about ADHD is in here. I especially appreciate reading the quotes from other parents going thru what we're going thru and also appreciate the extra titles of other books based on a specific subjects pertaining to ADHD. This book has been extremely helpful.
it is what it is...practical advice July 15, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
i too felt as if my daughter was described perfectly in this book. i have begun to implement a lot of the suggestions in the book and keeping notes on what works and what doesn't. this is the first book that i add to my library on the adhd subject and it was a great buy! it's very easy to read...read it during a 4 hour wait in the dentist's office! there are sections in the book that don't pertain to my daughter yet but i know i'll find useful advice as she grows older. i welcome any suggestions on other useful books that i should read and add to my library. thanks!
A GREAT BOOK FOR PROBLEM SOLVING August 17, 2004 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book is really great for those looking for solutions to everyday problems. We bought this book because we were tired of all the "medical stuff". We wanted a book written by parent of children that actually have it. i suggest every parent have this book and apply some if not all the principles in there.....it has saved us alot of times
