Snakes of NC November 10, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The color glossy pictures(live animals-not illustrations) are the best-although there is too much "Save the Snakes" editorial drivel in areas of the book. I extensively travel this state and am outside in a lot of areas. I have a reason for wanting to know what kind of snake I am looking at-aside from normal outdoorsman curiosity. Although I marvel at snakes, many of my co-workers do not and are quick to kill many of these creatures that present no threat to them because they don't want to take the time to id the snake first and they still have a little of the old "only good snake is a dead snake attitude" in them. If I can take some of the mystery out of it for them with this book, perhaps that attitude will change. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to ask questions first and shoot later(if at all). I'm certainly no conservationist but this book will serve to deepen appreciation of the 36 kinds of NC snakes. Their habitats, and range are clearly laid out and information on reproductivity, species variation, etc. is presented in an organized consistent form from snake to snake. I was quite pleased. This book was definitely more easy to use and relevant in NC than other snake books which cover all North American snakes and are much more poorly illustrated perhaps partially because of the amount of material.
Great Reference Book July 5, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book has many photos showing the difference of each snake in the different regions of the state. It is comprehensive information in easy to understand format.
