 Seriously Disappointing May 21, 2008
I'm depressed at the thought that this novel is held up as the definitive black, gay experience. It's poorly written, juvenile, and the end moral is disgusting--the main character goes back to his man after he gets beaten up. Not to mention the obvious issues that the author has with white people that runs throughout the entire book. Interestingly, he has much to say about how white people are horrible, but fails to meaningfully address homophobia in the black community and shamelessly objectifies working-class and poor urban black men. Don't waste your money on this childish trash.
Funny, but too much personal thoughts about the race issue July 9, 2007
I couldn't give Mr. Hardy's book a 5 because he wouldn't expect it of me. I'm white. He seems to think that all white people do is oppress and repress black people. Yes, his book is funny and I liked it very much. But he uses every opportunity he can to project reverse discrimination in the pages. If he wants to write a book about black oppression in America, do it, but don't use his B-Boy series as a soapbox. I found it offensive. He doesn't want to let the black/white issue go and slams whites every chance he has. Are we all guilty therefore? Where else do black people have it so well off Mr. Hardy??? I think there is loads of opportunity for black people in America and there are plenty examples of it. You want to focus on the larger issue and cry and whimper about how blacks are forgotten and denied their rights. Pleeezzzz. Stick to your fiction. I have the next three episodes (or volumes) and I imagine he'll go on and on about discrimination of blacks in America, and I'll just read on muttering under my breath, "Shut up. Lil Bit."

I love Pooque and Lil Bit's story this story is so gripping you will think that you are actually in the room and when everything is going down! This is a great urban love story!! You will love it!!

This was a love story b/w 2 guys one who is having a hard time adjusting to the fact about being open about his gayness. I loved this book it was so sweet. The whole series is excellent must read it in order to fully understand everybody's viewpoints and i loved the final book that put everything together "A House Is Not a Home" Excellent finally to the series. The series goes: B boy Blues, 2nd Time around, If For Only One Night, The Day Easy E died and A House Is Not A Home, it might be another one b4 The day EZ DIED. But read it is an excellent storlyline
An extemely well written story July 22, 2006
B-Boy Blues is the first book that I have read by James Earl Hardy and it will not be my last. The story moves at a good pace. Each of the characters is well developed in the story. The author was successful in getting me to feel the joys and sorrows of the main characters.
The book is a love story at its core. The author seemed to focus on developing a great story whose characters just happen to be same gender loving. The book has resonance for anyone who has experienced love, no matter what the sexual orientation.
I loved the book and would recommend it to others.
