Gave me over to a Collection Agency May 11, 2008 Just got a notice from a collection agency wanting money for a subscription I let expire. I'm not happy about this at all and needless to say I will never subscribe to Backpacker magazine again.
Good For Hikers March 31, 2008 216 out of 218 found this review helpful
I'm new to Backpacker [1-year], but so far find it to be a great magazine. Here's a little of what to expect:
-info about lots of places to go hiking around the world -hiking and camping equipment reviews -hiking skills and tips (i.e. recipes, survival skills...)
Some people may get irritated with the ads, but for me, they keep me on top of the latest useful hiking products.
With great pictures and human interest articles to boot, its one of the best hiking magazines I know of. Also recommend The 5-Minute Plantar Fasciitis Solution if this annoying foot condition interferes with your hiking. Happy trails!
Changed a lot over the years February 22, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I stopped my subscription because the magazine has changed a lot through the years. Not enough hikes, backpacking information. Too many adds, bizarre contests, not enough content.
Backpacker Magazine Review January 11, 2008 I purchased this magazine for a Christmas gift and was very suprised at how quickly the subscription started. Within a week of Christmas the first issue was delivered. My son was very happy.
Selling out? December 31, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Since AIM Media bought Backpacker from Rodale Press and brought on a former Outside magazine editor, some of the down-to-earth relevance of this once dependable, informative, readable magazine has gone out the window in favor of more titillating fare. It hasn't reached the bottom of the barrel like Outside (with its emphasis on macho self-indulgence), but recent articles like the one describing how the father abuses his daughter on camping trips (Feb 08) make one wonder where it's headed.
