I remember as a child looking through at the beautiful photography and great articles of Your Big Backyard. Now, I'm a teacher, and would recommend it to anyone who has kids who love animals and nature!

My 5 year-old urban-born son loves this magazine. The pictures, stories and information about wild animals and their habitats are fun to read and he learns a lot in the process.

We're on our second year of this magazine, and every issue gets read cover-to-cover, at least 3 times, and he won't let me throw any of them away, even the old ratty ones. I wish that it went into more detail about some of the animals - what they eat, what the do, stuff like that, rather than just "this is a ____". (There is detail about many of the animals, but sometimes there's just a picture with the name.) Other than that, though, I'd say it's great. The activities are easy enough for a 4-year-old to do and understand, and I have a couple of encyclopedias where we go look up the animal when more information is desired, which is often. He's showing an early interest in animals of all kinds, so this was a perfect gift for him from his godmother.

5 out of 5 stars Not just for preschoolers!   August 15, 2003

My daughter is 8 years old & in 3rd grade. She loves this magazine & can't wait for each month's edition. It's an easy format for her to read & understand on her own. She can't put the magazine down until she has read the entire thing - she usually finishes it the day it comes in the mail!
