5 out of 5 stars Are we all on the same page here?   July 24, 2004

I read many of the reviews for this DVD, and by far the most interesting one was dixieeagle's "Praise Jesus" column which he took every overly cliched quote and wrote it on the review. To be honest I thought people were going to review the content of this DVD I really did not think it would turn into the "Give your heart to Jesus" column. Dixieeagle is a prime example of why I am not christian, I have no problem with Christianity or any other religion, I am just not religious, dixieeagle needs to learn a term it is called SARCASM I seriously doubt that helpfulpete was completely serious, and telling him he is going to hell really does not make you look very good. There is another thing he needs to learn, that Michael Moore is a satirist, meaning he does not want you to agree with him as much as he wants you to talk about what he is saying, which worked, if dixieeagle had known this he would have continued drinking his Natural Light and watching NASCAR, also you can not support the war and support the troops at the same time, in not supporting the war you can bring them back home and not killed(BTW there have been 900 soldiers killed).

I am sure it is hard for you to accept someone else's beliefs and opinions, probably coming from a small southern town with one culture and opinion, and where everything centers around high school football,BBQ's, and church. It is pretty hipocritical for someone to bash Michael Moore calling him un-american because he speaks his mind, there is another term,FREEDOM OF SPEECH, is that not what we are fighting for in Iraq, democracy so they can have a democratic government and speak their mind just like Michael Moore is doing. Also the definition of liberal is not someone who does not agree with your outdated way of thinking, before you call me some punk in his mid teens I want to tell you that I am a senior at UNT, I am six hours from graduating with a major in psychology and a minor in music theory, so I do not need an advice from someone like you who is probably some common worker(if you are employed, or is that why you love the government so much?). Oh yeah DIXIEeagle the south lost the civil war, get over it.

Sorry about that for people who want an opinion of the awful truth, it is Michael Moore uncovering corporate greed and other problems in America and is very entertaining.

1 out of 5 stars What a waste of space   July 20, 2004

I do not think about Michael Moore, other than in disgust. What a waste of an intelligent (if he even is) human being. What a waste of a human life...his.

Find a cause worth living for, Mr. Moore. There are people with AIDS in Africa, starving in the Sudan and India - and all you can see is the nose at the end of your face. Again, what a waste.

My attitude is, change the channel and ignore this man. Since when is crudeness worthly of being thought provoking?

yulk.

5 out of 5 stars I actually watched the episodes   July 20, 2004

Has anyone noticed that the negative reviews on this DVD collection mention absolutely nothing about the content of the material itself. Moore's segments on corporate crime, corporate greed and the social plight of many in this country is eye opening. Compared to many of this country's forefathers Moore is closer to being a "Real American" than the vast majority of his critics.

Michael Moore...not the most objective voice out there, to say the least, but all the accusations that he "lies" - most of the time when the neo-cons (fake conservatives) say that, it's referring to something done for comedic/ironic value which for the purposes of their argument they decide to take 100% seriously.

Either this is the intentional distortion of a desperate few rats who won't leave the ship yet, or there are a bunch of people out there who are completely unfamiliar with the concept of humor.

Imagine if you took every word Lenny Bruce or Bill Hicks said literally...absurd! So why do they do this to Moore, a flawed but important documentarian? Desperation. The chimp he sink now bye bye!

5 out of 5 stars Dear Mr. Travers   July 18, 2004

(...)P>>> "Fahrenheit 9/11" (the title stolen without permission
>> from Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451")
By your standards, this would be a "lie", as you're trying to imply that his riff on Bradbury's title required Ray's permission - but it's clearly fair use. Example: half the porn movies that come out have titles that parody mainstream films.

>> one must accept the fact that George Bush knew
>> about 9/11 ahead of time
Moore didn't say that. Is that what you think after seeing Bush's "reaction"? And...who benefitted?

>> allowed it in cahoots with Osama bin Laden
>> and the Saudi royal family
He didn't say that either, now, did he? He said they went light on the Saudis and that his dad gave Bin Laden his first serious backing - both things clear from the public record.

>> in order to justify the long-desired American
>> invasion of the Middle East
Oh, it's a conicidence that all the actually intelligent people around Shrub have openly lusted for just such a series of invasions for years? Check the congressional record from Feb. 2001 when Unocal was asking us for an invasion of Afghanistan. Check far-eastern newspapers from summer 2001, when they all said we'd be invading Afghanistan in the fall. Check ownership of the flight schools where the hijackers went in Florida.

>> spirited bin Laden's legitimate family
>> out of the country
Another matter that is easily proven from the government's own testimony and documents, though the Bushies denied it UNTIL proof was shown to the public. THEN they said it was no biggie...

>> because they were part of the plot
>> ...to bring oil profits to the Bush family
Moore didn't say either of these things either, where do you get this stuff? Have you been watching a different movie from everyone else? Hint: "911 - Road to Tyranny" is not the Moore film

>> 6,778 pieces of factual evidence
What a joke. You haven't managed to list one actual assertion made by Moore that isn't easily confirmed, and you have listed your assumptions and his jokes as if they were his statements. This is really weak; you would not make it through 9th grade logic at a decent Catholic school.

>> that have been determined by the world to
>> discredit Moore's work as lies.
Gosh I hope you're just learning English as a second language. If it's your first language, you should get checked for Down's Syndrome.

>> the liberal press hit us with big headlines telling us that it "broke records"...it made $21 million
The records spoken of were in the documentary category, and once again the statements are easily proven.

>> "The Passion of the Christ" made $117 million in its first weekend.
Yes, but repulsive bloody porn like that is always more profitable than documentaries.

>> It will influence the election. In favor of Bush.
If it does, it still won't be enough to get that hydrocephalic dung beetle Connecticut rich boy fake conservative elected for what would be the first time. Maybe they'll pull something and stop the election, but they're history anyway.

>> Still, Moore is a hero of the Left
I'm a libertarian - ie, true conservative, and I like his work. The left you imagine is tiny and is not that majority of educated people who oppose Bush and his hillbilly supporters. Most people are a little smarter than that "left-right" dichotomy, but some are just sheep who think any criticism of Lord Shrub makes the critical party a "liberal" (neocon codeword for someone who has traveled and actually reads books)

>> These Truths remain self-evident. Res ipsa loquiter.
Throwing in one English and one Latin cliche at the end doesn't make up for the fact that you're a sub-literate liar, sir.
