Amazon.com You wouldn't know it by watching the mostly ridiculous escapades on display in Wild America, but this comedy/adventure for young boys is marginally based on the true story of Marshall, Mark, and Marty Stouffer, three young brothers who successfully pursued their dream of becoming wildlife filmmakers. From their home in the South, the Stouffer boys embark on a cross-country trek to the West, where they hope to get rare footage from inside the dreaded Cave of the Sleeping Bears. Along the way they encounter cute British tourist girls, deadly alligators, a rampaging moose, and an Air Force fighter on a bombing range. In other words, Wild America is about as contrived as it could possibly be and still claim to be based on reality, but it is harmless enough for young viewers with its wholesome message about bravery, hard work, and family togetherness. Jonathan Taylor Thomas (from television's Home Improvement) leads the young cast of adventurers. --Jeff Shannon
Description Based on the true story of the daredevil Stouffer brothers, "Wild America."

Inspirational, but not 100% kid-friendly August 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very nice, inspirational story. Wanted to show this to a pack of Cub Scouts, but thankfully I pre-screened it. This would have been an excellent, family-friendly movie if it were not for a slew of curse words about half-way through the film. None before or after, so it's unfortunate that they couldn't have chosen better language.
Otherwise, very nice story, beautiful cinematography, nice message.
Great Movie! February 8, 2008 I love this movie! It's a true story and that makes it even better. I ordered a VHS tape so my grand daughter could handle it without "scratching it" like a CD. It was in great shape.
Great Family Entertainment! November 10, 2007 I love this movie! I found it on TV while channel-surfing one Sunday afternoon and thought it was both moving and hilarious. It reminded me of a time and a spirit of adventure that unfortunately may be lost forever for today's youth. The story is loosely based on the real life adventures of Marty Stouffer, renowned wildlife photographer as narrated by his brother, Marshall. Marshall, little 'Zero', youngest and smallest of the Stouffer brothers, is often the guinea pig of his brothers' experiments but has a close relationship with his dad and is eagerly awaiting the day when they will fly together in an airplane that they are restoring together.
There are some very funny scenes in this movie as the boys journey far away from home to film a movie about wildlife in America and many life lessons as the boys learn to depend upon each other and begin to mature into young men.
Marshall's growth from hapless child into courageous young man is remarkable and his changing relationships with his family members notable. His first airplane flight, although reckless, was exciting and memorable, to say the least. (Part of the true story or artistic license)? It's hard to say but it's an enjoyable part of the tale.
I bought the DVD and am saving it to watch with my grandsons when they are a little older. I think they will enjoy it as much as I do!

Wild America May 25, 2007 Kids love this movie. As an adult I can nit-pick all I want, but the simple truth, is that kids love this movie.
