Amazon.com Following Alex Grey's first film, Artmind, CoSM is a documentary that further defines Grey's lofty spiritual ideals by walking the viewer through a series of works made for Grey's masterpiece, The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors. Grey, known for his cosmic, anatomically detailed paintings of humans connecting with the universe, takes the viewer on a journey from birth to death in this non-profit gallery/gathering space created for community gatherings. Starting with artworks depicting the physical body, Grey's work branches out into an exploration of various stages in a person's psychic and spiritual development, culled from a complex mix of Eastern and Western philosophical and religious perspectives. One potent example is a painting of humans dissolved into pure light, rendered in a series of hyperbolic curves and light beams bouncing off one another. Filmmaker Nick Krasnic does a fine job of allowing Grey's narration, as he explains the concepts and inspirations behind each piece, to be the focus of each scene, though CoSM's rave-era trance music soundtrack adds unnecessary melodrama. Watching CoSM is a meditation not only on art viewing but also on an artist who believes in unlimited human potential. -Trinie Dalton

It is an pure view of reality as we know it. The gravity of this film instills transcendence without the use of drugs by the viewer. Buy this and show it to everyone you know or meet. Then go visit the Chapel in New York..

This is an absolutely mind blowing experience with phenomenal audio, visuals, and narrative. I bought it just becuase I like Alex Grey's art; what I found is an extraordinary exploration and discovery of vast proportions, from the physical to the metaphysical, from the base human passions and proclivities, to the richness of creative living. It is truly a trascendent experience, which Alex guides your through.

A Personal Tour May 9, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I watched this with my parents, and all of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Its like you're walking through the Chapel with Alex as your guide. He gives you the backstory of all his paintings, and says in his own words what motivated him to make them.
Its really impressive listening to him speak about these paintings. When you see his artwork, you can't help but realize that he's not just an incredibly intelligent and scientifically knowledgeable person, but he's also intensely spiritual. Then, to hear him SPEAK as clearly and deeply as he paints, you realize that you're dealing with someone who has inherited, and is passing on, a sum total of knowledge and wisdom the likes of which has been impossible up until now.
No other artist is able to convey so many different but related themes so densely in his work and words.
